Logging is a very common type of work that takes place in order to remove trees from their nature environment. They are then used to make a variety of products that we use on a daily basis. Yet there are laws about where you can conduct such types of events. There are also limits to how much can be cleared out of a given area. These measures are taken to ensure that there is plenty of forest left and yet our needs are still met.

The process of illegal logging involves people cutting down trees in areas where they don’t have the proper permits to do so. There is a huge market for logs so that is why people engage in such behaviors. They may go as far as to access the equipment of legitimate logging companies. Sometimes illegal logging involves the theft of the materials that have legally harvested by someone else.

The laws have become very harsh for those that engage in illegal logging though. They are damaging the environment and destroying natural. Habitats that animals need for survival. There are rewards for those that report instances of illegal logging in order to stop them. While there are surveillance teams out there in the forest areas they simply don’t have the man power to cover all the possible locations where illegal logging can occur.

Still, it is believed that millions of dollars of wood are the result of illegal logging annually. It is very hard to get a firm estimate though of how often this is taking place. That is a large amount of money for people to be making profits off of. In return it can result in the cost of the wood from legitimate efforts being more expensive. This is because they are even more limited in where they can gather it from without upsetting the natural balance of things.

In order to help deter individuals from engaging in illegal logging, stiffer penalties are being implemented. What will happen to those involved depends on the laws in the country where the illegal logging takes place. The punishments can include hefty fines and jail time if convicted. Yet for many that engage in illegal logging, the risk is well worth the amount of money they make from it.
