Tornado Tears Roof Off Church While 40 Preschool Kids Sing “Jesus Loves Me” Inside

A tornado devastated a church building in Paducah, Kentucky last week, tearing off the entire roof and ravaging the majority of the inside.

But miraculously, the 10 staff members and 40 preschool children inside Mt. Zion Baptist Church remained unscathed despite the destruction swirling around them. Amazingly, the only room inside the church that was left untouched by the vicious tornado was the room where the kids and staff were taking shelter.

According to a report by the Baptist Press, the children were singing “Jesus Loves Me” and “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” while the tornado tore through the roof and rooms surrounding them. Undoubtedly, God was holding the world and their precious lives in their hands at that very moment.

Church members are praising God for His obvious divine intervention in what could have been a deadly encounter with Mother Nature.

“We just give God the glory that no one was hurt,” said Mt. Zion Baptist Church member Sylvia Cherry.

“The almighty hand of God has provided safety to our community,” added Sheriff Matt Carter in an interview with West Kentucky Star

The sheriff is amazed that in spite of the destruction path left by the tornado on March 14, nobody was seriously hurt. Over 5,000 residents in west Kentucky lost power, and fallen power lines caused a number of road closures.

“The destruction path is approximately five miles long,” said Carter. “There are approximately three homes that are devastated but no injuries, and also there [are] approximately a half-dozen other homes that have sustained minor to moderate damage.”

“This could have been an extremely high fatality rate, and we’re very fortunate and blessed to only report that one minor injury,” he continued

Hundreds of community members have since rallied together to assist the church in recovery efforts.
